Brady
is a small town located in McCulloch County in central Texas. The community calls itself "The Heart of Texas," because it lies just 24 miles southwest of the geographical center of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population of Brady was 5,528. The town is probably most well-known to visitors because of nearby Brady Lake. The lake has 25 miles of shoreline, and offers swimming, boating, skiing, camping, and fishing. Facilities at Brady Lake include an enclosed marina, covered boat storage, a large pavilion, restrooms and showers, hookups, screened shelters, and picnic areas. There are 15 tent sites at the campgrounds, 3 primitive sites and 12 RV hookups in the park area. Additional RV hookups are located in the Pavilion area. There are also 20 cabins for rent at Brady Lake. The city of Brady hosts an annual World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off each Labor Day weekend at Brady Richards Park. Other attractions in the town include a new Aquatic Complex that features a swimming pool, basketball court, volleyball court, shuffleboard, horseshoe courts, pavilion, walking trail, and a hummingbird/butterfly garden. The city of Brady also operates a 9-hole golf course located northwest of downtown on Highway 87 North.

The Central Plains Region of Texas has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid, with prevailing winds from the Gulf of Mexico. Winters are mild and relatively dry. Snowfall is rare, but ice storms occur about once every two years or so. On average, central Texas receives 33.6 inches of rain per year, mostly in the spring and fall. Severe thunderstorms are also possible in the springtime. Tornadoes are a threat, especially in the springtime, and dust storms are another possibility. Bright sunshine prevails, however, most of the time, with the area receiving nearly 2,650 hours of sun per year. The highest recorded temperature in central Texas was 112 F. on September 5, 2000. Summer highs exceed 100 degrees F. on an average of 18 days per year and exceed 90 degrees F. on 116 days per year.
