City-by-the-Sea
is a community, or "populated place," located in Aransas County on the southeast coast of Texas. The closest town is Rockport, and it's also near the city of Corpus Christi. The area is filled with attractions, from beach activities to birding, shopping, dining and visiting historical sites. Just a few of the recreational activities near City by the Sea include fishing, boating, water-skiing, golf, hiking, biking and picnicking. The area surrounding City by the Sea is also known for its' excellent birdwatching opportunities. The Aransas National Wildlife Refuge is very popular with local birders and organizations and attracts birdwatchers from all over the country. Nearby Goose Island State Park is the site of the wintering grounds for the rare and endangered whooping cranes. In the wintertime, tours are available of the nesting cranes. The nearby city of Rockport hosts the annual Hummer and Birding Expo, and other special events include the Oyster Fest, Seafair and the Rockport Wine Festival. Other attractions near City by the Sea include Mustang Island State Park, Fulton Mansion State Historic Site, Texas Maritime Museum and the Texas State Aquarium in the city of Corpus Christi.

The Southeast Gulf Coast of Texas has a humid subtropical climate. Tropical storms and hurricanes are common, and they strongly alter the climate of the region. This region is warm most of the year due to the currents of the Gulf of Mexico. Summers are very hot and humid. In winter, it can get cold if a strong front moves in, occasionally even causing snow. Most of the time, however, winters are very mild. Rain in the coastal region is more abundant than in the inland region. The wettest months of the year are April and May. Tornadoes can occur in this region, but less frequent than in other parts of the state.
