Concan
is a small community located in southwestern Texas along the Frio River. It's within Uvalde County, which is part of the southwestern portion of the Texas Hill County. The town of Concan is near Garner State Park, which is a popular tourist destination, well-known for its' springtime birdwatching and camping, among other activities. There's also an 18-hole golf course nearby, designed by Roy Bechtol. Garner State Park is one the most popular parks in Texas for overnight camping. More than 200,000 campers come here each year and reservations are recommended for summer weekends and spring break, when it gets especially busy. Other activities in the park include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, biking, picnicking and miniature golf. In the summertime, visitors may enjoy dancing, meals and snacks at the concession building. Swimming is also possible in the Frio River, but "at your risk," as it's unsupervised with no lifeguards on duty. Paddle boats and kayaks are also available for rent mid-March through Labor Day weekend at Garner Park.

Southwestern Texas Hill Country is on the edge of the humid subtropical climate zone. Summers are hot and humid and winters are cool. The region has many rivers and hills and the vegetation is both deciduous and coniferous at the greater elevations. Average annul rainfall in southwestern Texas is up to 48 inches (1,200 mm). Flooding is common near rivers and in low lying areas. The wettest months of the year are April and May. Snow is extremely rare in this region. There are basically just the two seasons; summer and winter. Cold, dry air from the Great Plains moves into the area in the wintertime. Tornadoes are possible, but not as common as in other areas of the state.

The closest airports in the area are the Hondo Municipal airport (HDO) located about 33 miles southeast of Concan in Hondo, Texas, Kerrville Municipal Louis Schreiner Field (ERV) located approximately 50 miles northeast of Concan in Kerrville, Texas, the Maverick County Meml International airport (5T9) located roughly 65 miles southwest of Concan in Eagle Pass, Texas, and finally the San Antonio International airport (SAT) located around 74 miles east of Concan in San Antonio, Texas.
