Granbury
is a city in Hood County, north-central Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,978 people. Granbury is the county seat and is about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth. The town is most well-known for being home to Lake Granbury, a reservoir created in 1969, as one of three lakes formed by the damming of the Brazos River. Lake Granbury is a long, narrow lake that has 103 miles of scenic shoreline. The lake is contained by the De Cordova Bend Dam. The surface area of the lake is 8,310 acres and maximum depth is 75 feet. The lake was first proposed in the late 1950s, but construction didn't begin until 1966. The impoundment became the subject of a book by John Graves called "Goodbye to a River." Activities at Lake Granbury include swimming, boating, water-skiing, wakeboarding, and fishing. The lake is annually stocked with catfish and bass, which may include largemouth bass, striped bass, white bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish, and also white crappie, sunfish and long nose gar. The city of Granbury was founded in the 1860s and has several historic buildings, including many on the town square that are registered historic landmarks. Other places of interest include the Granbury Opera House, which still hosts Broadway productions. Also of historical interest, folk hero, Davy Crockett's wife, Elizabeth, settled in Hood County following the Texas Revolution against Mexico. The Crockett family received land in what is now Hood County, and Elizabeth Crockett is buried in Acton State Historic Site, the smallest state park in Texas. A large statue of Elizabeth Crockett marks her grave site.

Central Northeast Texas has hot, humid summers and cool winters. The climate is classified as humid subtropical. Dry winds add to the heat in the summertime, often causing the mercury to soar above 100 degrees F. July and August are the hottest months and January is the coolest month. Northeast Texas lies on the southern end of "Tornado Alley". The National Weather Service occasionally issues tornado watches, although they rarely form into actual tornadoes. This region receives approximately 37 inches of rain per year. Flash floods and severe thunderstorms are frequent occurrences during spring months. Average snowfall in northeast Texas is 2.4 inches per year.
