Glen-Rose
is located in Somervell County in north-central Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,444 residents. Glen Rose is called the "Gateway to the Hill Country," and is home to several popular attractions which draw lots of visitors each year. In 2004, Glen Rose was named an "American Dream Town," and it's billed as a premier location for living the "Rural American Life Style." Millions of years ago, this area was home to lots of dinosaurs, which has also earned Glen Rose the nickname of "Dinosaur Capital of Texas." You can actually see dinosaur tracks throughout the town of Glen Rose. Dinosaur Valley State Park is located just northwest of town and offers hiking, biking, and camping. There's also a day-use picnic area, an outdoor amphitheater, an interpretive center located in the headquarters, and a store that sells dinosaur souvenirs, drinks and snacks. Canoeing and kayaking are available on the Brazos River and the Squaw Valley Golf Club is consistently ranked as one of the top courses in the state of Texas. Dinosaur World in Glen Rose another fun place to take the entire family. It covers approximately twenty acres and features more than 100 life-size dinosaurs along a winding pathway. Each dinosaur displays a sign that tells visitors the name of the dinosaur and gives other details, such as when they existed and where they roamed. There's also a museum on the grounds with replicas and fossils, a dinosaur dig for kids and a playground. Pets are also welcome at Dinosaur World, as long as they are on a leash.

Central Northeast Texas has hot, humid summers and cool winters. The climate is classified as humid subtropical. Dry winds add to the heat in the summertime, often causing the mercury to soar above 100 degrees F. July and August are the hottest months and January is the coolest month. Northeast Texas lies on the southern end of "Tornado Alley". The National Weather Service occasionally issues tornado watches, although they rarely form into actual tornadoes. This region receives approximately 37 inches of rain per year. Flash floods and severe thunderstorms are frequent occurrences during spring months. Average snowfall in northeast Texas is 2.4 inches per year.
