Lewisville-Lake
is one of the largest lakes in Texas, located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the northern part of the state. It's a beautiful lake that is very popular, and can become extremely crowded, especially during summer months. Better known as Lake Lewisville, it was created in 1927 on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River near the town of Lewisville. It was expanded in the 1940s and 1950s. There are six marinas and two restaurants on the lake, more than a dozen parks and over six campgrounds at Lake Lewisville. Six bridges cross the lake, with the main bridge being on Interstate 35E on its western finger. This bridge is known for having bottleneck traffic during rush hour. The Lewisville Lake toll bridge opened in 2009, connecting Little Elm via the Eldorado Parkway and Interstate 35E near Swisher Road. Lake Lewisville spans 29,000 acres with 233 miles of shoreline. Activities at the lake include fishing, boating, sailing, jet skiing, swimming, and just relaxing. The numerous parks located around the lake offer nice beaches, campgrounds, hiking and biking trails, golf courses, and plenty of other outdoor activities. Party Cove near Westlake Park, near the center of the lake, is the place where the younger crowd likes to go to party. If you venture over to this area, please be prepared that this is where you'll find loud music, swimming, alcohol and lots of people having a good time. All visitors are reminded to be safe and not mix alcohol and boating and to always wear a life vest in the water.

Northeast Texas has hot, humid summers and cool winters. The climate is classified as humid subtropical. Dry winds add to the heat in the summertime, often causing the mercury to soar above 100 degrees F. July and August are the hottest months and January is the coolest month. Northeast Texas lies on the southern end of "Tornado Alley". The National Weather Service occasionally issues tornado watches, although they rarely form into actual tornadoes. This region receives approximately 37 inches of rain per year. Flash floods and severe thunderstorms are frequent occurrences during spring months. Average snowfall in northeast Texas is 2.4 inches per year.
