Toledo-Bend
is a large reservoir located northeast of the town of Beaumont on the border between Texas and Louisiana. The lake is on the Sabine River and is the largest man-made body of water in Texas and the largest in the south. It's the fifth largest in the United States. Toledo Bend Lake has a surface area of 185,000 acres and 1,200 miles of shoreline. The lake was formed by the Toledo Bend Dam and was completed in 1969. Toledo Bend Lake, often referred to as simply "Toledo Bend," has an abundance of recreational opportunities, but is most well-known for its' excellent fishing. Both private and public facilities at Toledo Bend offer swimming, boating, fishing, sailing, miles of hiking trails, camping, picnicking and sightseeing. Toledo Bend Lake is also a popular location for many fishing clubs hosting tournaments. The lake is best suited to shallow draft power boats due to a large number of trees and stumps that are still in the body of the lake. Although there are numerous well marked boat lanes that have been cleared of stumps and trees, one should still use caution when boating, especially if you venture off the marked boating trails. The Toledo Bend area is also home to numerous special events throughout the year, including a Festival of Lights, Loggers Festival, Pioneer Trade Day, Pow Wow, Sawmill Days and Tamale Festival. Adjoining the Toledo Bend Reservoir is the Sabine National Forest. With over 160,000 acres, the national forest offers fishing as well as large wilderness areas for exploring, primitive camping and hunting.

Southeast Louisiana, near the Gulf Coast, has a warm year round climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Semi-tropical conditions prevail in most areas of the state, but especially in southeast Louisiana, which is greatly influenced by the Gulf of Mexico. This region experiences over 180 days of sunshine annually and abundant rainfall. The normal daily temperatures range from 52 degrees F. in January to 82 degrees F. in July. Snow and ice are rarities in Louisiana. During the summer and fall, tropical storms and hurricanes frequently batter the state, especially along the coast, and can cause severe flooding.
