Blanco
is a town located in central Texas near the region known as Devil's Backbone in the Texas Hill Country. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,205. Blanco is a quintessential small town, with a slow pace of life, one stop light, and residents who still gather on the town square to chat with neighbors. The Blanco River flows through the southern end of town and is home to Blanco State Park. It's considered by many to be one of the most picturesque state parks, although one of the smallest. The park is unique, in that it's one of only a few state parks with camping facilities located within the city limits. Many people come to visit and go camping from nearby Austin, San Antonio and Houston. The lovely Blanco River is the main attraction and is known for its' blue-green water. Two flood control dams provide swimming and wading areas on the river and two playgrounds for children are near the campsites. The river is stocked with rainbow trout and during trout season, you'll likely see people lined along the river bank, sometimes elbow to elbow! Trout is the most popular catch, but the river also contains catfish, bass and perch. Other things to do in Blanco include hiking, biking, birdwatching and browsing through antique and gift shops. The town also has several historic buildings, including the old County Courthouse, built in 1885. Blanco is central to many other interesting attractions. Within a 40-mile radius, you can visit the Enchanted Rock State Natural area, Lyndon B. Johnson National and State Historical Parks, Canyon Lake, and Pedernales State Park.
