Livingston is a small town located in Polk County in east-central Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,335 full-time residents. Just east of town is the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation, which had a population of 480 as of the 2000 census. Livingston is well-known for being home base to Lake Livingston, which is the second largest lake ever constructed for water supply purposes in the state of Texas. Only Sam Rayburn Reservoir is bigger. Lake Livingston is 2.5 miles long and has an average depth of 55 feet. It has a surface area of 83,000 acres and is 23 feet with a maximum depth of 90 feet. Lake Livingston has more than 450 miles of shoreline that extends into San Jacinto, Polk, Walker, and Trinity Counties. Things to do at the lake include swimming, fishing, boating, sailing, jet skiing, camping, picnicking, hiking, biking and simply relaxing at lakeside, enjoying the views. It's nicknamed "Water Wonderland," and there are many beautiful homes and campgrounds, as well as several small communities, surrounding the lake. For those who enjoy camping, parks at Lake Livingston offer over 5,000 campsites and 100 boat launching ramps. Livingston is just 80 miles north of Houston and 175 miles south east of Dallas.

Livingston Weather & Climate

The North Texas Piney Woods Region lies in a humid subtropical climate zone. This region in eastern Texas receives more rainfall than any other region in the state. More than 60 inches annually of rain falls in the far eastern portion. This is due to the Gulf of Mexico currents that carry humid air to the region. While coastal sections see the most cloudy days statewide, northern sections see the most sunny days. This area is prone to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, generally in the springtime. The heat of summer is intensified by high humidity. During winter and spring along the immediate coast, temperatures are kept cool by relatively cool Gulf waters. In late winter and early spring, dense fog, called advection fog, can form when warm air moves over the cool shelf waters. The region is also vulnerable to hurricanes, although plenty of warning is generally given for these types of storms.
