Princeton
is a small city located in Collin County in northeastern Texas near the city of Dallas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,800 residents. The town of Princeton began as a farming community by brothers T.B. Wilson and George Wilson in the late 1870s. It was originally called Wilsons Switch. With the coming of the railroad, the name was changed in honor of Prince Dowlin, a landowner and promoter of the town. In 1940, 76 cabins was built west of Princeton to house migratory workers. In February 1945, the site became a prisoner of war camp for German prisoners captured during World War II. Local farmers paid the POWs to work on their farms. Today, Princeton is most well-known for their annual Onion Festival. It generally is held on the fourth Saturday of April each year, and includes a 5K run, arts and craft show, auction, raffle and onion cook-off. Princeton is just a short drive to Dallas and all the city's major attractions, restaurants and shopping. Some of the other attractions in Dallas include the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Dallas Children's Theater, the Dallas Zoo and its the site of the annual Texas State Fair.

Northern Texas has a climate that is semi-arid and prone to drought. Annual rainfall is between 16 and 32 inches (810 mm). During the summer, this area of state sees the most clear and sunny days. On most winter nights, temperatures fall below the freezing mark, or 32 °F (0 °C). The wettest months of the year are April and May. Tornadoes are common, caused by the convergence of westerly and southerly prevailing winds during the late spring, making the region part of Tornado Alley. Poor land management, drought, and high wind speeds cause large dust storms. Improved land-management practices have improved dust storms somewhat in recent years. The panhandle region, farthest from the Gulf of Mexico, experiences colder winters than the other regions of Texas.
