Richland-Chambers-Reservoir
is located in east-central Texas, southeast of the town of Corsicana in Freestone County. It's about an hour south of Dallas, two hours from Houston and about three hours from Austin. Richland Chambers Reservoir is the third largest inland lake in Texas by surface area, and the 8th largest reservoir by water volume. It was formed by the impoundment of Richland Creek and Chambers Creek. The "Y" shaped reservoir has 330 miles of shoreline and the dam is located on the eastern end of the lake. The predominant species of fish in Richland Chambers Reservoir are channel catfish and blue catfish, copper nose bluegill, Florida bass, white and hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie, smallmouth buffalo and carp. When first formed, Richland Chambers was known for its' largemouth bass tournaments, but multiple droughts have made it so that it's no longer considered a top bass fishing lake. Other activities at the lake include boating and swimming, and hiking and wildlife viewing around the reservoir. It's usually quiet and uncrowned, so the traffic level is low around the lake. Land for lakeside housing is still plentiful around Richland Chambers. The Harbor Inn Restaurant & Club, sits on the banks of the lake adjacent to the Northshore Harbor Condominiums. Primary access to the reservoir is via U.S. 287 with several areas of access posted around the lake.

Northern Texas , in the Plains Region, the climate is semi-arid and prone to drought. Annual rainfall is between 16 and 32 inches. During the summer, this area of state sees the most clear and sunny days. On most winter nights, temperatures fall below the freezing mark, or 32 °F. The wettest months of the year are April and May. Tornadoes are common, caused by the convergence of westerly and southerly prevailing winds during the late spring, making the region part of Tornado Alley. Poor land management, drought, and high wind speeds cause large dust storms. Improved land-management practices have improved dust storms somewhat in recent years. The panhandle region, farthest from the Gulf of Mexico, experiences colder winters than the other regions of Texas.
