St-Jo is a small town located in northern Texas near the Oklahoma border. The population is approximately 1,000 residents. Saint Jo lies at the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 and State Highway 59 about 20 miles west of Gainsville. It's within an hour and a half of Dallas/Fort Worth. The town of Saint Jo is home to a scenic historic downtown square, where all the buildings face a center plaza with a gazebo. It's a very historic town, with buildings dating back to 1873. One of the main attractions in town is the Old Stonewall Saloon, which was the first building erected in the town. According to tradition, the saloon was opened to accommodate thirsty trail drovers on their long cattle drives to Red River Station on the Chisholm Trail. A boarding house was atop the saloon. The building was purchased by H.D. Field Jr. in the 1950s and restored it to look exactly as it did in the late 1800s. Other things to do in the Saint Jo area include taking scenic drives and visiting area wineries. There are several golf courses near Saint Jo, as well as three lakes. Lake Nocona is northwest of the town, Moss Lake is to the east, and Lake Ray Roberts is southeast near the town of Sanger.

St Jo Weather & Climate

Northeastern Texas , near the Oklahoma border, the climate is humid subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. The annual average precipitation is 29 inches, with an annual average snowfall of 6 inches. Most of the time, however, this region enjoys sunny weather that is typical of most of the state of Texas. Warm, dry winds from the north and west can cause summer temperatures to soar over 100 degrees. F. Tornadoes are possible, but it's too far from the Gulf of Mexico for hurricanes to be a significant threat. In winter, periods of extreme cold are rare. Snowfall remaining on the ground more than a few days is an uncommon occurrence in Texas. Freezing rain is a distinct hazard in northeast Texas, with nearly the same frequency as snow events.
