Whitesboro
is a small town located in Grayson County in northern Texas near the Oklahoma border. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,793. The town of Whitesboro is mostly known for two things; its' proximity to Lake Texoma and its' annual Peanut Festival. Lake Texoma is actually shared by the states of Texas and Oklahoma; part of it lies in the Oklahoma counties of Bryan, Marshall, Johnston and Love, and part lies within Grayson and Cooke counties in Texas. There are several small uninhabited islands on the lake, accessible only by water transportation, and the lake is the site of two state parks, 54 USACE managed parks, and two wildlife refuges. Activities at the lake include swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, wind surfing, sailing, picnicking, hiking and camping. It becomes very crowded with college students during spring break and the Fourth of July, especially at an area known as "Fobb Bottom," on the Oklahoma side of the lake. Lake Texoma is also host to the Lakefest Regatta, widely considered to be the first inland charity regatta in the United States. The Peanut Festival in Whitesboro has been a tradition for over 40 years. Held in downtown Whitesboro, the festival includes a parade, free entertainment, over 200 shopping booths, a carnival with games and much more fun for the entire family. All in all, Whitesboro makes a very good family vacation destination.

Northeastern Texas , near the Oklahoma border, the climate is humid subtropical with hot summers and mild winters. The annual average precipitation is 29 inches, with an annual average snowfall of 6 inches. Most of the time, however, this region enjoys sunny weather that is typical of most of the state of Texas. Tornadoes are possible, but it's too far from the Gulf of Mexico for hurricanes to be a significant threat. In winter, periods of extreme cold are rare. Snowfall remaining on the ground more than a few days is an uncommon occurrence in Texas. Freezing rain is a distinct hazard in northeast Texas, with nearly the same frequency as snow events.
