Comfort
is a small town located in south-central Texas, just minutes from the city of San Antonio. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,363. In the heart of the Texas Hill Country, locals like to say "I found Comfort...in Texas!" The town has become a tourist destination, known for its' antique shops, wineries, bed and breakfast inns and good restaurants. The town of Comfort was established in 1854 by German immigrants. The downtown area has over 100 historic structures, and is one of the most well-preserved historic business districts in the state. Most of the residents of Comfort are descendants of the original pioneers who settled the town in the 1850s and 1860s. Known for its' Independence Day Celebration, the town of Comfort's motto is "The Most Patriotic Little Town in the Texas Hill Country." Many of the town's buildings are draped with red, white and blue and an All-American Parade includes floats, classic cars, antique tractors, Uncle Sam and "Miss Comfort" and her court riding in cars, waving to the crowd. The fun doesn't end there; beginning at 11:30am, there is a Texas-style barbecue brisket dinner served in Comfort Park, with carnival-style games for the children and much more. Christmas in Comfort is the town's other popular annual special event. This event includes a juried arts and crafts fair and a full day of holiday activities and shopping, always on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The South-Central Hill Country has an arid climate, but sits on the edge of the humid subtropical climate zone. Summers are hot and winters are warm to cool. Spring and fall are comfortably warm. The area receives up to 48 inches of rain per year, with the wettest months being April and May. Widespread flooding is common. The central hill country receives about a dozen nights per year below freezing. Occasionally, there is sleet, freezing rain or snow. It's not uncommon for some winters to have no freezing precipitation at all. Tornadoes are possible, although not as common as in other areas of the state. July and August are the hottest months. The highest temperature recorded was 111 °F in 2000, and the lowest recorded temperature ever was 0 °F in January 1949.
