Kerrville
is located in Kerr County in central Texas. As of a census taken in 2009, the population was 22,826. Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Kerrville is a popular tourist spot due to the beautiful Guadalupe River, which runs through the town, and the area's parks. Surrounded by natural beauty, Kerrville has something for everyone, including festivals, outdoor recreation, shopping and museums. Some of the most popular events include the Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair, the Down by the River Festival, Easter Fest & Cook-off on the River and the Kerrville Folk Festival. Some of the other places to visit in Kerrville include the Museum of Western Art: Home of the Cowboy Artists of America and the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center. The latter is located in downtown Kerrville and features over 600 artists with works in ceramics, jewelry, painting, sculpture, woodworks and more. Five area parks offer camping, hiking and biking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking along the Guadalupe River. Other parks have tennis courts, volleyball courts, ball fields, picnicking facilities, and swimming. Nearby Lost Maples State Park is a 2,100-acre park that features a combination of rugged limestone canyons, plateau grasslands, wooded slopes and clear streams. It also includes the only maple forest in the state of Texas. Lost Maples State Park has 30 campsites with water and electricity, and 8 primitive camping areas that are accessible only to hikers. Kerrville is a one-hour drive west of San Antonio.

Kerrville Weather & Climate

The South-Central Texas Hill Country has an arid climate, but sits on the edge of the humid subtropical climate zone. Summers are hot and winters are warm to cool. Spring and fall are comfortably warm. The area receives up to 48 inches of rain per year, with the wettest months being April and May. Widespread flooding is common. The central hill country receives about a dozen nights per year below freezing. Occasionally, there is sleet, freezing rain or snow. It's not uncommon for some winters to have no freezing precipitation at all. Tornadoes are possible, although not as common as in other areas of the state. July and August are the hottest months. The highest temperature recorded was 111 °F in 2000, and the lowest recorded temperature ever was 0 °F in January 1949.
