Lake-Whitney
is a reservoir located in central Texas on the main branch of the Brazos River. It encompasses a surface area of more than 23,500 acres and 225 miles of shoreline. The area consists of rolling hills, tallgrass prairies, cedar trees, hardwood timber, and bluffs. It's an easy drive from Dallas/Fort Worth along Interstate 35, and Lake Whitney is also part of the Texas Lakes Trail Region of North Texas. There are abundant opportunities for water sports and other activities at Lake Whitney year-round. The most popular activities at the lake include fishing, boating, sailing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, water skiing, hunting, and golf. Other things to do include horseback riding, hiking, fossil hunting and rodeos. The area was designated as the Getaway Capital of Texas by the Texas Legislature, and it's little wonder why when you consider all the area's attractions. Not only Lake Whitney recreation, but also antique malls, boutiques, outlet stores, museums and art galleries. There are also historical sites to visit and wineries to tour. What a great place to plan a family vacation, or plan a peaceful, relaxed getaway in the heart of the Texas Lakes Trail Region.

Lake Whitney Weather & Climate

Northeast Texas , in the Prairie and Lakes Region, the climate is humid, subtropical with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Warm, dry winds from the north and west cause summer temperatures to soar over 100 degrees F. This is one of the hottest regions of the U.S. during the summer. Winters are generally mild with clear, sunny skies. Sometimes, strong cold fronts in winter known as "Blue Northers" will pass through the region, causing nighttime lows to drop below 25 degrees F. It generally snows 1 or 2 days per year, with an average accumulation of 1.8 inches. However, daytime highs around 70 are not uncommon in winter. Spring weather is warm but can be volatile. Severe thunderstorms are common, along with lightening, heavy rain, hail and possible tornadoes. Northeast Texas is located in the heart of Tornado Alley.
