Whitney
is a small lakeside community, located in the Texas Hill Country of east-central Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,087 full-time residents. The town of Whitney lies along the shores of Lake Whitney, surrounded by rolling hills and lush forest. It's one of the most scenic areas of the state, an easy drive from Dallas-Fort Worth on Interstate 35. Lake Whitney is also part of the Texas Lakes Trail Region of North Texas. The most popular activities at the Lake Whitney include fishing, boating, sailing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, water skiing, hunting, and golf. Other things to do include horseback riding, hiking, fossil hunting and rodeos. The area was designated as the "Getaway Capital of Texas" by the Texas Legislature, and when you visit, you'll see why; the beautiful scenery, lake activities, small rural towns and all of the area's other attractions. Not only Lake Whitney recreation, but also antique malls, boutiques, outlet stores, museums and art galleries. There are also historical sites to visit and wineries to tour. Lake Whitney and the town of Whitney in the heart of Texas makes a great family vacation destination.

Northeast Texas , in the Prairie and Lakes Region, the climate is humid, subtropical with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Warm, dry winds from the north and west cause summer temperatures to soar over 100 degrees F. This is one of the hottest regions of the U.S. during the summer. Winters are generally mild with clear, sunny skies. Sometimes, strong cold fronts in winter known as "Blue Northers" will pass through the region, causing nighttime lows to drop below 25 degrees F. It generally snows 1 or 2 days per year, with an average accumulation of 1.8 inches. However, daytime highs around 70 are not uncommon in winter. Spring weather is warm but can be volatile. Severe thunderstorms are common, along with lightening, heavy rain, hail and possible tornadoes. Northeast Texas is located in the heart of Tornado Alley.
