Hide-a-way-Lake
is a private, gated community within the Tyler metropolitan area in northeastern Texas. In 2009, the community had an estimated population of 3,000 and 1,600 homes. Hide-a-way Lake is directly north of Interstate 20, about 13 miles northwest of the city of Tyler. The main gate is accessed by Exit 552-FM 849. It's about an hour's drive east of Dallas. Hide-a-way Lake is beautiful; towering pines and oaks, three lakes surrounded by colorful azaleas, 27 holes of golf and fine dining. It's a peaceful, safe environment for families and retirees. Just 15 minutes away is the city of Tyler, called the "Rose Capital of the World." It's also home to the nation's largest rose garden, an Azalea Walk, and the annual Texas Rose Festival, which draws thousands of visitors each year. Other attractions in Tyler include a Rose Museum and several other local museums, historic sites and the Caldwell Zoo. Downtown Tyler has charming brick streets lined with antique shops and specialty stores, art galleries, the ballet and the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. Other attractions nearby include Tyler State Park, which offers picnicking, camping, boating and fishing, birding, mountain biking, hiking and swimming.

Northeast Texas Piney Woods Region has a humid subtropical climate zone. This region receives more rainfall than any other region in the state - more than 60 inches annually. While coastal sections see the most cloudy days statewide, northern sections see the most sunny days. This area is prone to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, generally in the springtime. The heat of summer is intensified by high humidity. During winter and spring along the immediate coast, temperatures are kept cool by relatively cool Gulf waters. In late winter and early spring, dense fog, called advection fog, can form when warm air moves over the cool shelf waters. The region is also vulnerable to hurricanes, although plenty of warning is generally given for these types of storms.
