Lake-Palestine
is a recreational reservoir located in the beautiful Piney Woods Region of northeast Texas. It was created in 1962 by the construction of the Blackburn Crossing Dam on the Neches River. Lake Palestine is nestled in the lush woods approximately twelve miles from the town of Tyler. With a total length of 18 miles, 135 miles of shoreline and an average depth of 16 feet, Lake Palestine offers fishing, boating, water skiing, swimming, picnicking and more. The lake is very popular for largemouth bass tournaments due to its consistent success. Both white bass and hybrid striped bass are plentiful in the lake, and white bass are particularly popular during their spring run up the Neches River and Kickapoo Creeks. Channel and blue catfishes are abundant and flathead catfish provide great opportunity for trophy-sized fish. Other things to do in the area include hiking, mountain biking, birding, canoeing and camping The nearby town of Tyler is called the "Rose Capital of the World," and holds the annual Texas Rose Festival each year. The festival is held in October and features a parade, the coronation of the Rose Queen, and other civic events. Tyler is also home to the world's largest rose garden, a Rose Museum and the Caldwell Zoo. There is also an Azalea Trail in Tyler, which are 2 officially designated routes within the city that showcase homes or other landscaped venues adorned with azalea shrubs.

Northeast Texas Piney Woods Region has a humid subtropical climate zone. This region receives more rainfall than any other region in the state - more than 60 inches annually. While coastal sections see the most cloudy days statewide, northern sections see the most sunny days. This area is prone to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, generally in the springtime. The heat of summer is intensified by high humidity. During winter and spring along the immediate coast, temperatures are kept cool by relatively cool Gulf waters. In late winter and early spring, dense fog, called advection fog, can form when warm air moves over the cool shelf waters. The region is also vulnerable to hurricanes, although plenty of warning is generally given for these types of storms.
