Lake-Placid is a reservoir on the Guadalupe River located about a half-mile southwest of the town of Seguin in Guadalupe County. The reservoir was formed in 1928 by the construction of a dam on the Guadalupe River. Management of the dam and lake was assumed by the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority on May 1, 1963. Lake Placid is a poplar recreational lake for fishing, boating, and swimming.Lake Placid has been stocked with species of fish intended to improve the utility of the reservoir for recreational fishing, including catfish, white crappie, sunfish, and largemouth bass. Vegetation in the lake includes cattail, pondweed, American lotus, spatterdock, rushes, water hyacinth, water lettuce, and hydrilla. There is one free public boat ramp accessed off Interstate Highway 10 via exit 605. The Guadalupe River, on which Lake Placid sits, runsfrom Kerr County, Texas to San Antonio Bay on the Gulf of Mexico. The river is popular for rafting, fly fishing and canoeing. Cities along the river include Kerrville, New Braunfels and Victoria.

Lake Placid Weather & Climate

The south-central Hill Country of Texas has an arid climate, but sits on the edge of the humid subtropical climate zone. Summers are hot and winters are warm to cool. Spring and fall are comfortably warm. The area receives up to 48 inches of rain per year, with the wettest months being April and May. Widespread flooding is common. The central hill country receives about a dozen nights per year below freezing. Occasionally, there is sleet, freezing rain or snow. It's not uncommon for some winters to have no freezing precipitation at all. Tornadoes are possible, although not as common as in other areas of the state. July and August are the hottest months. The highest temperature recorded was 111 °F in 2000, and the lowest recorded temperature ever was 0 °F in January 1949.
