Lake-McQueeney is a reservoir located on the Guadalupe River west of the town of Seguin in south-central Texas. The lake was formed in 1928 by the creation of a dam to provide hydroelectric power to the area. Lake McQueeney contains an extensively developed island called Treasure Island, which sits in the center of the lake. It's largely a residential area, and is prone to flooding with major floods happening in 1972, 1998, and 2002. Most of the lake is approximately 10 feet deep, with deeper sections along the center channel of the river. Lake McQueeney is popular for outdoor recreation, including fishing, boating, and swimming. It's stocked with catfish, white crappie, sunfish, spotted bass, and largemouth bass. The nearby town of Seguin has a population of 25,000 and is one of the oldest towns in the state of Texas. The town is full of attractions, from a historic downtown district and museums to a family amusement park. In addition to Lake McQueeney, the Seguin area contains many other outdoor recreational opportunities. Max Starcke Park includes a scenic river drive that passes a beautiful waterfall, cypress and pecan trees. The park is also home to an 18-hole golf course, picnic areas, playgrounds, swimming pools, ball courts and much more.

Lake McQueeney Weather & Climate

The south-central Hill Country of Texas has an arid climate, but sits on the edge of the humid subtropical climate zone. Summers are hot and winters are warm to cool. Spring and fall are comfortably warm. The area receives up to 48 inches of rain per year, with the wettest months being April and May. Widespread flooding is common. The central hill country receives about a dozen nights per year below freezing. Occasionally, there is sleet, freezing rain or snow. It's not uncommon for some winters to have no freezing precipitation at all. Tornadoes are possible, although not as common as in other areas of the state. July and August are the hottest months. The highest temperature recorded was 111 °F in 2000, and the lowest recorded temperature ever was 0 °F in January 1949.
