Lampasas
is located in central Texas, part of the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,681 residents. Lampasas is home to mineral springs health spas which once claimed to cure everything. According to Wikipedia, the 25-bed Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas was established by two physicians in 1935. In 1958, Rollins Brook was the smallest accredited hospital in Texas. In 1981, Rollins was sold to a for-profit health care provider in Houston. Over the next decade the hospital passed through the control of a succession of multiple owners. By 1991, the hospital declared bankruptcy and closed its doors without notice. Thereafter, citizens, unable to locate government or foundation grants, raised some $600,000 in community fund-raising activities to reclaim the facility. When it reopened on July 21, 1991, Rollins Brook became the only community hospital to survive bankruptcy. The story was broadcast by ABC News with Peter Jennings. Other attractions include the Lampasas County Museum, which is housed in the former home of pioneer doctor, J.A. Adkins (circa 1868.) The museum has permanent exhibits, exhibits coinciding with local events, and exhibits about topics of interest. The city of Lampasas is also host to several annual events, including the Spring Ho Festival and the Spring Ho BBQ Cook Off.

Central Texas basically has two seasons - summers that may last from April through October, and winters that start in November and usually lasts until March. When summer ends, it's too dry for autumn foliage, except in East Texas.
Precipitation is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, although most occurs in May and September in the form of thunderstorms. Large amounts of rain falling within short periods of time cause flash floods. Hail is reported around the Central Texas area an average of 31 days per year and tornadoes are reported on an average of 12 days per year. Average yearly rainfall is near 32 inches. Average sunshine varies from about 50% in the winter to near 75% in the summer. Although tornadoes are rare, they are most often associated with dissipating tropical storms.
