Lake-Fork-Reservoir
is known as one of the top fishing lakes, not only in the Dallas, Texas area, but the whole world. This premier fishing lake was impounded by Lake Fork Dam in 1980. It holds 15 of the top 20 Texas State records for largemouth bass. Lake Fork Reservoir consists of 27,690 acres and is situated in Wood and Rains County in Northeast Texas, between the towns of Quitman, Alba, Emory, and Yantis, Texas. The lake has 315 miles of shoreline, and a drainage area of 493 square miles. Lake Fork Dam is 12,410 feet in length and impounds Lake Fork Creek, which is a tributary of the Sabine River, and other major creeks are Big Caney and Little Caney. Lake Fork Dam and Reservoir are owned and operated by the Sabine River Authority of Texas. Lake Fork Reservoir was created as a textbook fishery, including initial stockings before the lake was filled. Lake Fork Reservoir was established, by the Texas Parks and Wildlife, as a premier bass fishing lake, with 732,514 Florida-strain largemouth bass being stocked from 1979 through 1987. Other species of fish include Catfish, Black and White Crappie, Sunfish, and Bluegill. The predominant food source for the larger fish is Shad, Minnows, and Crawfish. There is a protected slot limit of no bass between 16 and 24 inches will be kept, and will be returned into the waters of Lake Fork immediately. A 5 bass per day limit can be kept, consisting of 5 under 16 inches, or 1 over 24 inches, and 4 under 16 inches.

Northeast Texas Prairie and Lakes Region has a humid, subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid and winters are mild to cool. Warm, dry winds from the north and west cause summer temperatures to soar over 100 degrees F. Winters are generally mild with clear, sunny skies. Sometimes, strong cold fronts in winter known as "Blue Northers" will pass through the region, causing nighttime lows to drop below 25 degrees F. It generally snows 1 or 2 days per year, with an average accumulation of 1.8 inches. However, daytime highs around 70 are not uncommon in winter. Spring weather is warm but volatile. Severe thunderstorms are common, along with lightening, heavy rain, hail and possible tornadoes. Northeast Texas is located in the heart of Tornado Alley.
