Lake-Tawakoni
is a reservoir located about 50 east of Dallas, Texas. Greenville is about 25 miles away and the town of Wills Point is only 21 miles. Wills Point is also the site of Lake Tawakoni State Park. It lies within three counties: Hunt, Rains and Van Zandt. Lake Tawakoni was constructed in 1960 for water supply, but it's also a recreational lake. It covers 36,700 acres and has a mean storage capacity of 926,000 acre feet. A bit of interesting trivia about Lake Tawakoni State Park is that in the summer of 2007 it was the site of a large, rare spider web. The web stretched over a 200 yard path and attracted considerable attention from entomologists. Lake Tawakoni has five miles of shoreline and offers swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, birding, mountain biking, geocaching and more. Other area attractions include Purtis Creek State Park, Tyler State Park, Cooper Lake State Park, Cedar Hill State Park, Governor Hogg Shrine Historic Site (operated by the City of Quitman) the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex; and Canton First Monday Trade Days.

Northeast Texas Prairie and Lakes Region has a humid, subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid and winters are mild to cool. Warm, dry winds from the north and west cause summer temperatures to soar over 100 degrees F. Winters are generally mild with clear, sunny skies. Sometimes, strong cold fronts in winter known as "Blue Northers" will pass through the region, causing nighttime lows to drop below 25 degrees F. It generally snows 1 or 2 days per year, with an average accumulation of 1.8 inches. However, daytime highs around 70 are not uncommon in winter. Spring weather is warm but volatile. Severe thunderstorms are common, along with lightening, heavy rain, hail and possible tornadoes. Northeast Texas is located in the heart of Tornado Alley.
