Medina-Lake
is a reservoir located on the Medina River in the Texas Hill County. It was completed in 1913 and is operated by the Bexar-Medina-Atascosa County Agricultural District. Medina Lake is about 40 miles northwest of San Antonio in Bandera and Medina Counties. The lake is crescent-shaped and runs west to east. It's 18 miles long and three miles wide at it's broadest point. At the south end of the lake is Medina Dam. At the time of the dam's construction, it was the largest concrete dam in the country and the fourth largest dam overall. Medina Dam is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Communities located along the lake are Mico, Lake Medina Shores and Lakehills. Activities at and around the lake include fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, camping, picnicking, relaxing lakeside, Medina Lake has been stocked with largemouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, catfish, and carp. Nearby Garner State Park is known for its beautiful scenery and miles of hiking trails and campgrounds. With 2.9 miles of Frio River winding through 1,774 acres of scenic terrain, the park offers lots to see and do, such as swimming, paddle boats, tubing down the river, hiking on scenic trails, camping, canoeing, fishing, miniature golf, geocaching. Also, since the 1040s, Garner Park has been known for their summer dances, held at the park's concession building.

The South-Central Hill Country has an arid climate, but sits on the edge of the humid subtropical climate zone. Summers are hot and winters are warm to cool. Spring and fall are comfortably warm. The area receives up to 48 inches of rain per year, with the wettest months being April and May. Widespread flooding is common. The central hill country receives about a dozen nights per year below freezing. Occasionally, there is sleet, freezing rain or snow. It's not uncommon for some winters to have no freezing precipitation at all. Tornadoes are possible, although not as common as in other areas of the state. July and August are the hottest months. The highest temperature recorded was 111 °F in 2000, and the lowest recorded temperature ever was 0 °F in January 1949.
